The KBH Group was formed in 2009 by 4 founding partners, Shaun Bain, Stuart Kenny, Kevin Bain and Nathan Hewitt. After what could be considered a relatively modest growth phase in the early years, the KBH Group quickly identified that Self Storage was an industry that deserved further attention and research.
After a thorough 12-24 month process of learning through the management of Coastal Storage Mandurah, which was acquired in 2010 the group travelled, learning from experienced and mature markets in the United States, New Zealand and the East Coast of Australia
KBH created the KeepSafe Brand from the ground up with the first site opening in May 2015. KBH set out to create an industry-leading state-of-the-art 24/7 Self Storage facility focusing on the highest levels of customer service with prime site locations and immaculate facility presentation.
KBH focused on high brand awareness with up to 6 levels of security for customer peace of mind and our facility designs are functional and efficient, meeting our local target market requirements. KBH has delivered above-average returns to our shareholders and investors. KeepSafe Storage is KBH’s marque brand and is a premium offering with competitive pricing, effectively seeking to raise the bar with product differentiation.
KBH has applied these learnings to all the brands that are currently owned/managed including; KeepSafe Storage, Coastal Storage, Welshpool Self Storage and Pier 21 Marina.
In 2016-17 KBH gained firsthand experience in the design and construction of multi-level premium facilities and also in the operational management of these same facilities. In 2016, KBH obtained an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) which enabled KBH to become a Fund Manager for future Investors.
Several years on and KBH is very pleased and proud to say that KBH own/operate/manage multiple award-winning facilities and have many satisfied investors. The KBH group has been established to create value by developing Self Storage facilities and Marinas. The group has targeted these high growth sectors and has a consistent track record in developing high-value business and investments.
Our key staff have major asset experience, in other high growth industries like LNG and mining and financial services. KBH drive operational excellence and have built a foundation of high-quality staff who contribute to the creation of wealth through prudent asset management and growth.
The KBH Group team
Previously, Shaun has worked as an executive in the finance sector for GE Capital in a range of roles, including Regional Manager, Branch Manager and as a member of the head office project team. Shaun is currently a Board Member for the Self Storage Association of Australia. Shaun is also a Responsible Manager for KBH Funds Management Pty Ltd’s Australian Financial Services License.
Following this success, Stuart became Managing Director of Ausgroup Limited, an SGX listed company which grew from small beginnings in WA to have a market cap of SG$750M before he stepped aside to hold the position of Non-Executive Director for several years and finally Non-Executive Chairman for a period of 5 years.
During his time on the board Stuart has been a member of the Remuneration and Human Capital Committee as well as been a member of the Nominating Committee.
Stuart has been Chairman of KBH Group since 2013 and brings his vast experience to provide strategic advice and guidance to the board.
Nathan has been a director and licensee of real estate agencies since 2004, and has been involved in all facets of that business including property sales, management and property management.
Graham has been with KBH Group since 2012 and is responsible for the overall management of the daily operations at the facilities, including Income, Human Resources and Training.
Prior to immigrating to Australia, Graham operated his own business as an agent for brand leading FMCG goods, specialising in Sales, marketing and distribution. The experience Graham gained has played a pivotal role in the development of our sales culture in the group. In addition, he has the ability to understand and implement the overall management requirements of our business.
Phil is an experienced finance and investment professional with over 25 years’ commercial experience, including senior roles with major financial institutions and ASX listed property investment companies. He has a Bachelor of Business and Post Graduate Diploma in Finance and Investment. He holds memberships with CPA Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
